For everyone who’s entering something creative on Idea, here’s my top five ways for you to make the most of your creativity. I'll keep you up to date with more hints and tips in future posts.
You
can make a jellybean taste like popcorn
Actually, that’s a saying I’ve
borrowed from a top international advertising agency. Basically, it means think
laterally. Just because you’re being asked for a poster, that doesn’t mean you
shouldn’t submit an idea for a website. If it does what we want but even
better, who’s to say that’s the wrong thing to do?
Keep it simple
Whatever your idea, the simpler
it is to understand the more powerful it will be. It may be that you’ve got a
gem, a rough diamond, that just needs a bit of polishing. The way to do that is
to keep making it simpler, so that more people can get it instantly.
Keep
doing stuff
It’s easy to fall into the trap
of having one great idea in your head. You think about it over and over until
it’s so perfect that you actually feel disappointed when you start to do it for
real. So you stop. The way to get past that is to have loads of ideas – however
simple they are – that you just keep doing. You learn by doing, not by
thinking. And it’s OK to make mistakes.
Try
something new
Very simply, the more you stretch
yourself the more you learn about what you’re good at, what you’d like to do,
and how you can express yourself in different ways. Discover something new
about yourself every day!
Shout
about it
Last but by no means least, when
you’ve done something you’re proud of, tell the world about it. If you have a
blog, post something about it. If you’ve got a Habbo, Piczo, Bebo, Myspace or
any other profile, put a link up. The more people who can see your creativity
in action, the more they know about your amazing talents.
